Series Rulebook

OVMX Vintage Motocross Series Rulebook


   1. General Information

Welcome to the OVMX Vintage Motocross Series. The purpose of this series is to promote safe, fair, and enjoyable vintage motocross competition while preserving the spirit and heritage of vintage motocross racing.

All riders, crew members, family members, and spectators are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner at all OVMX events.

OVMX reserves the right to interpret, amend, or enforce these rules at any time in the interest of safety, fairness, and the integrity of the series.


   2. Rider Eligibility

  • All riders must complete an official OVMX waiver before participating.

  • Riders under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian present.

  • Riders must compete in the appropriate class for their motorcycle and age.

  • OVMX reserves the right to move riders to a more appropriate class based on skill or equipment.


   3. Rider Conduct

The following behavior will not be tolerated:

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct

  • Fighting or aggressive behavior

  • Intoxication or substance abuse

  • Dangerous riding in pit areas

  • Harassment of officials, riders, or spectators

Penalties may include:

  • Position penalties

  • Moto disqualification

  • Event disqualification

  • Suspension from future OVMX events


   4. Safety Requirements

All riders must wear the following while on the track:

  • DOT or Snell approved helmet

  • Eye protection/goggles

  • Long sleeve jersey and motocross pants

  • Boots covering the ankle

  • Gloves recommended

  • Chest protection strongly recommended

 

   5. Motorcycle Eligibility

OVMX is intended for vintage and evolution-era motocross motorcycles. We do offer modern classes so please sign up accordingly

The following may result in disqualification:

  • Excessive modern modifications

  • Unsafe construction or repair

  • Leaking fluids

 

Final determination of eligibility rests with OVMX officials.


   6. Race Procedures

Starting Procedure

  • Riders must stage in designated areas.

  • First moto gate pick is done by a clothes pin draw

  • Second moto gate pick is based off first moto finish

  • Riders are expected to be ready when called.

  • Any rider missing the start may enter only when safe to do so.

Flags

Green Flag

Race start.

Yellow Flag

Caution. No jumping or aggressive passing.

Red Flag

Race stopped immediately.

Black Flag

Rider disqualified or must report to officials.

White Flag

One lap remaining.

Checkered Flag

Race complete.


   7. Scoring and Points

Series points will be awarded based on overall finishing positions.

Example points structure:

2nd   22

3rd   20

4th   18

5th   16

6th   15

7th   14

8th   13

9th   12

10th   11

Additional positions may continue descending by one point.

Tie breakers will be determined by:

  1. Most overall wins

  2. Most moto wins

  3. Final moto finish


   8. Protests

  • All protests must be made to race officials no later than 30 minutes after results are posted

  • Officials reserve final authority on all decisions.

  • Unsportsmanlike protests may result in penalties.


   9. Pit Area Rules

  • 1st gear only in pit areas.

  • No reckless riding.

  • Riders are responsible for keeping pit areas clean.

  • Dispose of fuel and fluids properly.

  • No open fires unless permitted by facility.

Children must be supervised at all times.


   10. Series Championships

To qualify for year-end awards:

  • Riders must compete in the minimum required number of events. (5)

  • OVMX reserves the right to adjust points due to penalties or scoring corrections.


   11. Weather Policy

Events may be delayed, shortened, or canceled due to weather or unsafe track conditions.

OVMX officials and facility management will determine whether conditions are safe for competition.

 


   12. OVMX Official Authority

OVMX officials maintain full authority regarding:

  • Rule interpretation

  • Rider classification

  • Safety enforcement

  • Event operations

  • Penalties and disciplinary actions

All official decisions are final.


   13. Release of Liability

Participation in motocross racing is inherently dangerous.

By participating in any OVMX event, all riders and participants acknowledge and accept the risks associated with motocross competition.

All participants must complete required waivers prior to participation.
